- Salesforce Devops Industry Analysis 2021
As 2021 unfolded I noticed there was tremendous activity in Salesforce application development and delivery. It seemed like there was an empty space when it came to teaching and sharing independent thoughts about Salesforce devops. So, to meet this need I launched my industry analysis practice in Salesforce devops with enthusiasm this year. I am so grateful to have been accepted as an educator and commentator in the global Salesforce community.
Industry Analysis Articles 2021
As we wind up 2021, here are the industry analysis pieces I wrote over the last year.
- Salesforce Devops in Early 2021
March 10, 2021
“Lately, “Salesforce Devops” is a hot topic of interest in the higher echelons of Salesforce management. Why? Because Salesforce development is still frustratingly slow and not getting faster, fast enough.” - Salesforce SDLC Nomenclature: Adopting the Ways of The Devops
March 14, 2021
“The term Software Delivery Lifecycle (SDLC) represents the entire practice of software delivery management. If you are reading this, then you are (or wish to be!) an architect for a major software project tasked with fulfilling the functional goals of an enterprise program. That program is likely to have many stakeholders, including customers, investors, enterprise staff, and project staff.” - SFDX-CLI Paves The Way for Open-Source Salesforce Devops
March 18, 2021
“It is hard to understate the importance of SFDX-CLI to the enablement of Salesforce devops. By putting API-level functionality in a BASH script running on Linux, Salesforce has established the needed touch point between Salesforce and open-source devops engineering.” - The Ways of the Salesforce Devops: Build or Buy?
March 21, 2021
“Every Salesforce software pipeline needs devops. The question is no longer should I buy devops, but how do I buy devops! After an enterprise commits to devops, what happens next for a solution architect is to confront the decision of whether to build or to buy a Salesforce devops solution.” - Use the Salesforce Devops Segmentation Model for IT Success
April 8, 2021
“I write about Salesforce devops because a hugely important information technology (IT) sector is tripping over itself. Like rearing an awkward teenage child, helping Salesforce devops to grow up is quite a challenge. To help usher this deserving field into adulthood, I analyzed the Salesforce devops industrial sector from the top down and drew a new segmentation model that categorizes, compares, and describes all the products and services that go into Salesforce devops program management. My goal is to create a model that gives solution architects and IT leaders a roadmap from which to implement a Salesforce devops program, as well as being a guide for Salesforce devops company founders, investors, and corporate M&A offices.” - Devops Powers Digital Transformations in 2021
June 1, 2021
“Global culture has caught up with the Internet because of the pandemic. Now, organizations of every size now see intense Internet adoption as inevitable, necessary, and mandatory. As IT work continues to grow in the post-pandemic world, and the quality of apps drive enterprise value, a complete perspective on app production is needed. Now, for companies who compete in this new world devops is the subject upon which to focus in order to manage the complexities of app production. Let us see what the evolution of devops means for Salesforce enterprise application development in 2021.” - Top 5 Startups Leading the Salesforce Devops Surge
June 21, 2021

August 11, 2021
“As I keep learning more about devops, I keep comparing cloud native, or “regular” devops to Salesforce devops. Naturally, people wonder what I mean when I say Salesforce devops is different from cloud native devops.” - Devops 3.0 Puts Management into Focus
September 8, 2021
“Devops 3.0 is important because it gives winning companies the power to dominate in the digital domain. To create this dominating Internet presence, corporate teams must align internal management practices with agile management techniques and devops tooling. To see how managing devops lets companies win in the digital domain here is a quick overview of devops history.” - Salesforce Devops What is Next? – Dreamforce 2021
September 16, 2021
“I was part of over a dozen presenters who were asked to distill our presentations to 10 minutes. Be sure to visit and subscribe to the Elements.Cloud YouTube Channel so you can see all little nuggets of wisdom from Ian Gotts and the rest of the presenters.” - Dreamforce 2021 Steps Forward
September 24, 2021
“Salesforce successfully pulled off Dreamforce 2021 this week in San Francisco. The event was limited to about 500 attendees, and it had a feel of a family reunion, where everyone can’t wait to hear what Uncle Marc has to say. The family feel is genuine at Dreamforce, and Salesforce CEO and co-founder Marc Benioff was back leading his Trailblazer army forward for good. However, it turns out most of the event’s specifics focused on Slack and other new items. The conference failed to add any sense of coherence to the existing Salesforce application delivery strategy. But Salesforce still took a strong step forward into the future of building business communities in the pandemic era with Dreamforce 2021.” - Salesforce Devops Periodic Table of Solutions: A SalesforceBen Collaboration

November 4, 2021
“Salesforce app production teams are constantly looking for ways to speed up application delivery. That interest in productivity drives interest in Salesforce devops. Each of these platforms’ success is derived from a key, shared characteristic that I call metadata intelligence.” - Free Devops Tools for Salesforce in Q4 2021
November 29, 2021
“Who doesn’t love free software or services? To get some of that love and to distinguish themselves from the pack, some Salesforce devops vendors offer free-forever, free trial, and demo versions of their products. To help architects looking to evaluate different Salesforce devops products I undertook a market research project on ‘free.’ Now, I am sharing the results of a survey I did on free devops tools listed in the SalesforceDevops.net product directory.”
